Christianity is expressed through a variety of traditions, including Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches. While these traditions differ in certain practices and structures, they share a common foundation of belief:

These shared beliefs form the foundation of historic Christianity and provide a basis for pursuing unity in Christ while recognizing differences in church traditions, structures, doctrines, and practices.

We believe that God created humanity as male and female, each possessing equal dignity, worth, and value before God. We believe that marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman and that God designed sexual intimacy to be expressed within that covenant.
Understanding Differences Among Churches
In addition to differences in worship style, leadership, and structure, Christian churches today may also differ in how they understand and apply biblical teaching on certain social and ethical issues. These can include topics such as the sanctity of life, marriage, the ordination of women and pastors, human sexuality, and other areas of contemporary cultural discussion.
In recent years, some denominations have experienced divisions or formed new associations as churches have sought to remain aligned with their understanding of Scripture and historic Christian teaching. As a result, churches within the same broad tradition may differ in their positions on these matters.

Lutheran Churches
Lutheran churches trace their roots to the Reformation and the teachings of Martin Luther.
