Our Mission
Our mission is to help people become followers of Jesus by sharing God’s love throughout our community through the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe God has uniquely created and equipped each person to reflect His character and to connect with others in meaningful ways. You are a vital part of what God is doing in Bowie, and together we seek to reveal His love in both word and action.
Our Vision
We Care Bowie’s vision is a local expression of the vision of Light of the World Foundation. Our vision is lived out through four key areas of ministry: Prayer, Care, Share, and Connect. These are the ways we seek to love our neighbors and live as the light of the world in our community.

Faith
We believe that God created us to be in relationship with Him. Yet through sin, we have turned away from Him and created a separation we cannot overcome on our own. Out of His great love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again.
Through Him, we can be forgiven, restored, and brought back into relationship with God—both now and for eternity. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ—not something we can earn by our own efforts (Ephesians 2:8–9).
This journey of faith is not just about knowing truth—it is about humbly receiving His gift and beginning a restored relationship with Him, and then serving others which is in fact serving God (Matthew 25:40).
The Journey of Following Jesus
Following Jesus begins with a series of personal and meaningful steps. This is not a formula, but a journey of humbly receiving God’s gift and beginning a new life with Him:
1. Embrace — “Opening our hearts to His love”
Receive God’s love for you. He is not distant—He loves you and desires a relationship with you (Romans 5:8).
2. Admit — “Honestly recognizing our need for Him”
Recognize your sin and your need for God. We cannot restore ourselves (Romans 3:23).
3. Repent — “Turning from the ways that lead us away from Him”
Turn away from sin and begin following Jesus as Lord (Acts 3:19).
4. Believe — “Placing our trust in Jesus”
Trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, believing in His death and resurrection (Romans 10:9).
5. Commit — “Choosing to follow Him with our lives”
Surrender your life to Jesus and walk in obedience to Him daily (Luke 9:23).
6. Pray — “Calling on Him and receiving new life”
Call on the Lord in prayer, asking Him to forgive you, lead you, and fill you with His Holy Spirit. Through Him, we are made new and begin a restored relationship with God (Romans 10:13; John 3:3; Galatians 5:16).
7. Connect — “Walking together with others in faith and love”
Grow in your faith with other believers through community, encouragement, and shared life (Hebrews 10:24–25).
Our Core Beliefs
Christianity is expressed through a variety of traditions, including Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches. While these traditions differ in certain practices and structures, they share a common foundation of belief:
- belief in one Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who created all things
- belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, Lord, and Savior
- belief that Jesus lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose bodily from the dead
- belief that through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, we receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, new life, and the promise of eternal life
- belief in the Holy Spirit, who indwells, guides, and empowers believers
- belief in the Bible as sacred Scripture and the inspired Word of God
- belief that God created humanity in His image and that every person possesses God-given dignity, worth, and value
- belief that Jesus Christ established His Church—the worldwide body of believers—and calls and empowers it through the Holy Spirit to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and serve others in love
- belief in Christ’s command to love God, love one another, love our neighbors, and make disciples of all nations
These shared beliefs form the foundation of historic Christianity and provide a basis for pursuing unity in Christ while recognizing differences in church traditions, structures, doctrines, and practices. Understanding church differences are shared on the Bowie Area Churches page.
Additional Biblical Convictions
We believe that God created humanity as male and female, each possessing equal dignity, worth, and value before God. We believe that marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman and that God designed sexual intimacy to be expressed within that covenant.
Unity in Christ
While Christians may differ in areas such as church leadership, worship styles, and certain doctrines, many believe these differences are secondary to the central message of the Gospel.
We are called not only to hold to truth, but also to pursue unity in love (John 17:20–23; Ephesians 4:3–6).
